Do I need an appointment?

Question 2

What if I can't come to your store?

We can come to you. Call the store at 805-549-0200 to schedule for our traveling notary service. A travel fee will be applied for this service.

What kind of identification will I need?

We can identify you as the document signer with any one of the following documents if the identification document is current or has been issued within five years:
• An identification card or driver’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles; 
• A United States passport; 
• Other California-approved identification cards, consisting of any one of the following, provided that it also contains a photograph, description of the person, signature of the person, and an identifying number: 
(a) A passport issued by a foreign government provided that it has been stamped by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service or the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services;
(b) A driver’s license issued by another state or by a Canadian or Mexican public agency authorized to issue driver’s licenses;
(c) An identification card issued by another state;
(d) A United States military identification card with the required photograph, description of the person, signature of the person, and an identifying number. (Some military identification cards do not contain all the required information.);
(e) An inmate identification card issued by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, if the inmate is in custody; or
(f) An employee identification card issued by an agency or office of the State of California, or an agency or office of a city, county, or city and county in California.

Question 4

What else do I need to bring?

Be sure to bring the fully completed document in its entirety,  not just the notary portion.  California requires all notaries to ensure the entire document is present and complete before a notarization can be performed.

Question 5

What if I don't have the required identification?

We can identify you as the document signer by the oath of two credible witnesses who each have the appropriate identification listed above. Each credible witness will be asked to take an oath and swear or affirm under penalty of perjury to each of the following:
• The individual appearing before the notary public as the signer of the document is the person named in the document; 
• The credible witness personally knows the signer; 
• The credible witness reasonably believes that the circumstances of the signer are such that it would be very difficult or impossible for the signer to obtain another form of identification; 
• The signer does not possess any of the identification documents authorized by law to establish the signer’s identity; 
• The credible witness does not have a financial interest and is not named in the document signed.

Are there things you can't notarize?

There are a handful of documents we do not notarize in the store in compliance with California State Law or National Notary recommendation. They are:
• Incomplete documents or documents that contain blank spaces to be filled out at a later time; 
• Wills or Last Will and Testaments; 
• I-9 Forms

Question 7

What if I can't sign my name?

If you cannot sign your name, you may sign the document by mark. The requirements for notarizing a signature by mark are as follows:
• You as the signer must have the appropriate identifying documentation; 
• Your mark must be witnessed by two persons who must subscribe (write) their own names as witnesses on the document. One witness should write the person’s name next to the person’s mark and then the witness should sign his or her name as a witness. The witnesses are only verifying that they witnessed the individual make his or her mark on the document. We, as notaries public are not required to identify the two persons who witnessed the signing by mark or have them sign the notary public’s journal. Exception: If the witnesses were acting in the capacity of credible witnesses in establishing the identity of the person signing by mark, then the witnesses’ signatures are required. 
• You as the signer must include your mark in the notary public journal. To qualify as a signature, the making of the mark in the notary public journal must be witnessed by an individual who must write the person’s name next to the mark and then sign his or her own name as a witness.

What if my document does not have a place for the Notary to sign?

We provide California State approved attachments that contain all the necessary wording, notary seal and signature at no extra charge.

What if I can't speak English?

Accepted Answer

Unfortunately, California Law requires us to be able to communicate with you in order for the signer either to swear to or affirm the contents of the affidavit or to acknowledge the execution of the document. An interpreter cannot be used.

Can I mail it from your store?

Accepted Answer

Our store offers UPS Next Day Air, Second Day Air, Three Day and Ground services as well as USPS mailing options. In addition, we can copy, fax, or scan and email your completed document all in the same visit.

How much does it cost?

Notary service pricing is limited by the state. A $15.00 fee is applied to each signature being notarized. Traveling fees are based on the location selected for service.

Question 12

What if my document needs a witness?

Accepted Answer

Witnesses are typically not part of the notary requirements but many documents require them.  Our staff is able to sign as a witness for you as needed.  Witness signatures are charged at a lesser rate than notarized signatures.

Question 13

What if my document is in a foreign language?

Accepted Answer

We can notarize a signature on a document written in a foreign language. Our function as notaries public relates only to the signature and not the contents of the document.
